The NSW government will set up a high-rise safety task force after the deadly inferno at London's Grenfell Tower.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters on Sunday she wants the strike force set up "as soon as possible" to identify any at-risk buildings.

"We have been working very hard behind the scenes since that tragedy unfolded in London," she said.

"We are making sure there is no stone left unturned here in NSW.

"We've got our agencies working with a sense of urgency about this and as soon as we can we'll bring forward any action we need to take."

Cheap cladding is thought to have played a part in helping the blaze spread through the London building.

Ms Berejiklian said it was appropriate to have a discussion about national building regulation laws.

"But of course we're doing everything we can in the meantime in NSW to protect our residents and to make sure that if there are any buildings at risk that they're dealt with as soon as possible," she said.
