NSW flight delays as pilots go on strike

Passengers can expect flight delays across NSW as almost a third of Regional Express pilots go on strike.

The industrial action follows Regional Express (Rex) pilots' concerns about working too many nights because of a pilot shortage.

"We understand that some time away from home is part of the job, we are simply seeking to set limits to give pilots some guarantee of work/life balance," Simon Lutton, Executive Director of the Australian Federation of Air Pilots said in a statement on Monday.

A four-hour work stoppage took place on Monday morning after Rex pilots were unable to reach an agreement with their employer in a Fair Work Commission conference on Friday.

Numerous flights to and from Sydney were delayed during the strike, with passengers offered a refund or change.

So far, 32 per cent of pilots rostered to work in NSW on Monday have taken part in the industrial action, Regional Express said in a statement.

The pilots' union has planned further action for the remainder of the day.
