NSW fire trails to be linked in new plan

Thousands of fire trails across bushland in NSW are to be linked up in an effort to help firefighters battle blazes.

An integrated network of strategic fire trails is to be built to improve access for firefighters during emergencies, under legislation introduced to state parliament on Tuesday.

The NSW Rural Fire Service will register all trails across the state, with plans for the network to be complete in three years.

Emergency Services Minister David Elliott said the network would assist hazard reduction.

"Today we are delivering on an election commitment to give firefighters the powers they need to create an improved and integrated fire trail network across the state," he said.

While most of the new fire trails links will be built on public land, the RFS will build some on private land in agreement with the landholder.
