NSW ELECTION IN NUMBERS

VOTERS

- More than 5.04 million voters are enrolled.

- More than 2.9 million ordinary votes are expected plus 320,000 absent votes and 339,000 postal votes.

- There have been 595,000 pre-poll votes so far.

- 206,000 iVotes so far.

ELECTION DAY

- About 2800 polling places across the state.

- Booths open at 8am and close at 6pm.

- About 60,000 pens, which replace pencils for the first time, will be issued to fill out ballot papers.

- The fine for not voting is $55.

- Voting is for the 56th NSW state parliament.

- NSW has changed government five times since the mid-1960s.

- Election is for all 93 seats in the lower house of parliament and 21 members, or half, of the Legislative Council.

- 540 Lower House candidates, 394 Upper House candidates.

- For the Lower House, just numbering one candidate will count as a valid vote, although filling in preferences is encouraged.

- For the Upper House, selecting the parties in order of preference is fine for voting above the line.

- Voting below the line requires you to preference at least 15 candidates.
