NSW man captures attempted car-jacking on dashcam

A lone driver cruising along a deserted NSW road at night had a terrifying encounter after slowing to help a man who then attempted to carjack him.

The driver, who gave his name only as Peter, was driving near Cessnock in the early hours of Sunday morning when he came upon a hooded man standing near a parked ute.

As the driver slows to see if the man needs help, the hooded man bizarrely stands still for a few seconds staring at the ground, before suddenly making for the driver's car door.

The driver screams as he screeches his tires and floors his car, managing to escape before the man can force himself in.

Footage of the incident was captured on the driver’s dashcam and uploaded on Sunday morning.

NSW Police told ninemsn officers are investigating the incident.
