A retired NSW dentist has been found guilty of indecently assaulting two young patients in a back room of his rural practice during the 1980s.

The 82-year-old, who can't be named for legal reasons, on Monday was found guilty at Sydney's Downing Centre District Court of three counts of indecent assault relating to two boys in rural NSW between 1981 and 1982.

The jury is still out on an additional 23 sexual molestation charges relating to four boys in total aged between eight and 17 during the 1980s.

The man is accused of using hypnosis and relaxation techniques to take advantage of the boys on a bed in the back room of his dental surgery.

The mother of one boy said she had taken her son, 11, to the dentist for relaxation therapy in the hope it would help his anxiety.

During the trial, the woman told the court when she returned for a second session with her son, he "bolted" once he saw the accused, but only disclosed why decades later.
