NSW cops deny false evidence charges

A NSW police officer accused of lying about the shooting of a mentally ill man in his home has pleaded not guilty to giving false evidence before the Police Integrity Commission.

Sherree Anne Bissett was formally arraigned on Monday in Sydney's Downing Centre District Court.

It is alleged she told the police watchdog in 2012 that another officer, Aaron Joseph Abela, had attempted to physically restrain Adam Salter before the 36-year-old was fatally shot in his Lakemba home in 2009.

Abela, Emily Patricia Metcalfe and Leah Ann Wilson are also facing charges relating to the evidence they gave to the watchdog about the shooting.

All three pleaded not guilty on Monday.

Their case is expected to return to court on April 26.

NSW Police Force has been contacted about their status as serving police officers.

A NSW Police spokesperson later told AAP the officers were on restricted duties.
