A NSW police officer who allegedly refused a roadside breath test has been charged with mid-range drink driving.

The 46-year-old was off duty when police were called to reports of a four-wheel-drive hitting a parked car at Dundas, in Sydney's northwest, about midday on Saturday.

The senior constable was arrested and taken to Granville Police Station after allegedly declining the test, where he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.144 - more than twice the legal limit.

Police said the man was issued with a court attendance notice and is due to face Parramatta Local Court on November 7.

His duty status is under review.
