NSW carer behind bars for abuse of girl

An 18-month-old girl is in a Sydney hospital and her male carer is behind bars facing charges of child abuse.

The 28-year-old man was arrested in Sydney's south-west on Thursday, accused of seriously assaulting the toddler while she was in his care.

The girl is in a stable condition and undergoing medical testing in hospital, police said on Friday.

The man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, child neglect and three counts of intimidation and was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Friday.
