Alleged NSW camouflage rapist behind bars

A man who allegedly dressed in a camouflage suit to abduct and sexually assault a 12-year-old schoolgirl on the NSW Central Coast will remain behind bars after being released from hospital.

Troy Stephen Johnson, 31, was arrested following a three-month police investigation that began when he allegedly snatched the girl as she walked to school at Narara, near Gosford, on May 15.

Police searched for a man who was in a head-to-toe camouflage outfit, called a ghillie suit, which is used to blend in with surroundings.

Officers searched a house in Woongarrah and seized several items following Johnson's arrest on Friday night.

Johnson was charged with multiple sex offences, some relating to alleged assaults on a second girl, who is 11, between October 2016 and April 2017.

Police say they are still investigating the attempted kidnapping in June of an 18-year-old woman, near a train station also in Narara.

Johnson reportedly suffered a medical episode after his arrest and spent Saturday night under police guard in hospital.

He was released on Sunday and faced Wyong Local Court where he did not apply for bail.

He is due to face Gosford Local Court on Monday.
