NSW bus driver to be sentenced over crash that killed woman

A 71-year-old Sydney bus driver who pleaded guilty to negligent driving over the death of a woman he hit and killed is set to learn his fate.

After Robert Wilson Reid pleaded guilty on Monday, his lawyer asked the court to deal with his client by fining him or imposing a good behaviour bond.

The prosecution opposed their application, saying Reid wasn't paying attention when he turned through a pedestrian crossing at the busy intersection of Clarence and Erskine Street and hit Christine Mullholland, 52, last year.

Ms Mullholland was trapped under the bus, stuck between its axles for hours as emergency services tried to free her.

She died at Royal North Shore Hospital a few hours after being rescued.

Reid's matter is listed at Central Local Court on Thursday.
