Work on Sydney's North West Rail link is powering ahead, with the NSW government ticking off another milestone on the $8.3 billion project.

Tunnelling is more than a third complete with one of the project's boring machines breaking new ground at the new Showground Station - one of eight new railway stations being delivered.

"Obviously April was a difficult month in terms of the significant rain that came but the project is still tracking well," NSW Premier Mike Baird said.
