No Republic vote under Queen: Pyne

Australians won't consider a republic again until Queen Elizabeth is off the throne, government frontbencher Christopher Pyne says.

The republican, who in 1999 convened a group called Conservatives for an Australian Head of State, said he expects a republic to be considered during Prince Charles' reign after its "comprehensive" rejection 16 years ago.

"I also think that the politicians will have to offer the public what they want, which is a people's elected head of state," Mr Pyne told the Nine Network.

"I don't think a parliamentary model will be ever adopted by the Australian public."
