No extra privileges for child murderer

The murderer of Ebony Simpson will not be given extra privileges following an intervention by NSW Corrections Minister David Elliott.

Andrew Garforth, who raped and murdered nine-year-old Ebony in Bargo in 1992, had his prisoner status reclassified by the Serious Offenders Review Council.

Mr Elliott said he had instructed the council to reverse its decision, stopping Garforth, who is serving a life sentence, from being able to apply for work and rehabilitation courses.

"The reclassification will be reversed - he does not have a toaster, he will not get extra time in the yard," Mr Elliott told Macquarie Radio.

"This guy gets nothing - he will die in jail. That's what the justice system said of him, that is what my department is to do."
