A man who allegedly stabbed his partner to death in southwest Sydney will remain behind bars.

Emergency services were called to a Glenfield home before 2am on Thursday to find 43-year-old mother Erana Nahu with stab wounds, NSW Police allege. She died at the scene.

James Fredes, 58, was arrested at the home and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was later charged with murder.

He was refused bail at Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday and is expected before the same court again on December 12 via video link.

Relative Janette Ngawhika told Network Ten: "We are rocked by the loss of her life. It's difficult to breathe."

"We are grateful that the kids weren't there (at the time)," she added.
