Ninth day of search for missing NSW woman

No leaf has been left unturned in the search for an elderly woman who has been lost for more than a week in the NSW Blue Mountains, police say.

The search for Elizabeth O'Pray, 77, has entered its ninth day since she went missing from her Medlow Bath home, as bad weather adds extra stress to the operation.

"Unfortunately we are getting storms nearly every day. There was hail yesterday, but some of the crews just refused to (leave)," Blue Mountains Inspector Peter Balatincz told ABC Radio on Tuesday.

Ms O'Pray was "spritely for her age" he said, but she has faced harsh weather.

Up to 150 people are involved in the search including police and Rural Fire Service.

Rescuers spoke to Ms O'Pray on her mobile last Tuesday night and she is believed to have told them she was OK but lost.

Ms O'Pray, who was an avid walker, has suffered a stroke in recent years which has left her with memory loss.

Police say they were contacted by a local resident on Friday night who thought he heard a voice calling for help from the valley below Peckman's Plateau.

The 77-year-old is known to walk along Grand Canyon Road in Medlow Bath and along a small track towards Katoomba.
