Massive new national park to be created in NSW
A new national park is being created in New South Wales.
The area is in the isolated north-west corner of the state, around 900 kilometres north west of Sydney.
While it might be red dirt and scrub, the outback is home to a vibrant community of native birds and mammals.

It will offer protection to 50 threatened species and arid zone wetlands.
They include birds the spiny-cheeked honeyeater bird and crimson chat, budgies and kangaroos.
The government has bought sheep and cattle station Thurloo Downs from farmer Peter Hughes to create the 440,000 hectare park.
It is nestled in one of the most isolated parts of the state, a three-hour drive from Bourke towards the Queensland border.

NSW Environment Minister James Griffin said it is an historic deal.
"Never before has a property this size has been acquired at any point by any government in the history of New South Wales," Griffin said.
Atticus Fleming from National Parks and Wildlife Service said it will protect animals.
"This will be a new park bigger than many of the most iconic parks around the world like Yosemite," Fleming said.

Five people will be tasked with taking care of the national park, with the land measuring six times the size of Singapore.
It's set to open in 2025.
