New-look Tasmanian cabinet sworn in

Tasmania's new-look cabinet has been sworn in following the shock resignation of a senior minister ahead of next year's state election.

In was announced last week Speaker Elise Archer would take over several portfolios of Energy Minister Matthew Groom, who made the decision to stand down and not contest the March vote.

Ms Archer was sworn in as the state's Justice, Corrections, Environment and Parks, and Arts minister at a ceremony at government house on Monday morning.

Resources Minister Guy Barnett has picked up Mr Groom's energy portfolio.

Amid the reshuffle, Premier Will Hodgman takes on the role of attorney-general after Vanessa Goodwin, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in March, formally announced her resignation.

MP Mark Shelton will be nominated to replace Ms Archer as speaker.
