New arts committee to improve NSW industry

A one-stop-shop pass to all of NSW's galleries and other cultural organisations is the first of many changes the government hopes to introduce with an arts advisory board.

The changes will come under an Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, NSW Deputy Premier and Arts Minister Troy Grant announced in a statement on Sunday.

He says the current system has become "too bureaucratic" and "disconnected" from its original purpose of supporting the arts.

Aiming to enhance the arts and culture industry across NSW, the committee will have a say on government policies while bringing together key industry figures for insight and collaboration.

"NSW has an amazing arts and culture sector and establishing a new agency will better position us to deliver on our ambitions to grow and strengthen this valuable sector even further," Mr Grant said.

Ticketing and benefits will be integrated across the state's arts centres with the Sydney culture pass, including perks like priority access, discounts and concessional entry.

A new office for culture, arts and screen will also be established early next year, combining Arts NSW and Screen NSW.

The committee will be made up of influential arts industry figures, including philanthropists David Gonski, Simon Mordant and Gretel Packer.
