A musician has been injured by a firecracker that had been thrown on to the stage during a performance at South West Rocks on NSW's Mid North Coast.

A band was playing at a licensed club on Sportsman Way about 10.30pm on Saturday when a lit firecracker was thrown on to the stage.

A member of the band attempted to extinguish the firecracker with his foot. However, the "bunger" exploded, burning a hole in his shoe.

He suffered superficial burns to his foot and was treated at the scene. He was later taken to Kempsey District Hospital for further treatment.
