Sydney murder bid accused refused bail

A Sydney man accused of deliberately crashing his car into a pole to try to kill a woman he had kidnapped has been refused bail.

Paul Phillip Moore, 47, allegedly ploughed into the power pole at Westmead in Sydney's west on Thursday before fleeing and leaving his injured passenger in the car.

The 42-year-old woman, believed to be Moore's former partner, was taken to hospital seriously injured.

Moore's lawyer did not apply for bail in Penrith Court on Friday. It was formally refused.

Police allege the 47-year-old from St Marys kidnapped the woman on Thursday morning, with the intention of harming her, before trying to kill her by crashing into the power pole.

Court documents allege Moore has a history of violence and that he may face further charges.

He was charged with attempted murder and taking a person with the intention to cause domestic violence-related actual bodily harm.

He returns to court on January 13.
