The Maritime Union of Australia and Hutchison Ports Australia will hold meetings on Tuesday amid a stand-off over the company's decision to sack 97 workers by text message and email.

MUA National Secretary Paddy Crumlin said the company's management had agreed to hold formal talks.

The MUA wants a return to normal operations after the workers had picketed outside the company's Brisbane and Sydney ports this month.
