Mourners farewell NSW teacher Stephanie Scott at venue where she was due to be married

It was supposed to be the site of her happiest day – instead mourners today gathered at the picturesque wedding venue to say goodbye to allegedly murdered NSW bride-to-be Stephanie Scott.

Family and close friends gathered at the Eat Your Greens function centre in Eugowra, near the Scott family’s hometown of Canowindra, at 1pm to farewell Ms Scott.

The 26-year-old teacher and her fiancée, Aaron Leeson-Woolley, had previously booked the centre, which boasts landscaped gardens, forest views and a 150 seat dining area, for their nuptials planned for 11 days ago.

Vincent Stanford, 24, is accused of murdering Ms Scott on Easter Sunday and dumping her body in the bush just days before she was due to get married.

Today, hundreds of mourners released yellow balloons – representing Ms Scott’s favourite colour – as part of the private service on the venue’s lawn.

Continuing the colour theme, mourners also laid bouquets of yellow flowers on Ms Scott’s white casket as it was led away.

Much of the nearby town of Leeton has become a shrine to the popular local teacher, with shops and businesses putting out yellow balloons, streamers and written tributes.

Many venues closed at 1pm today to allow locals attend a public gathering in Moutford Park that coincided with the private funeral.

Mr Stanford, who is accused of killing Ms Scott, worked as a cleaner at the same Leeton school where she taught English and drama.

He is due to appear in court in June.

Ms Scott’s disappearance over the Easter weekend sparked a massive search.

Police discovered Ms Scott’s body five days later in the Cocoporra National Park.
