More fireworks but no theme for Sydney NYE

Sydney's famous New Year's Eve fireworks display will feature an additional 2000 firecrackers but no theme this year.

The city's biggest event, which usually ends with a symbol and accompanying theme appearing on the Harbour Bridge, will instead emphasise the bridge itself in a creative light display.

The 12-minute pyrotechnics will include seven tonnes of fireworks and will be live-streamed on Facebook, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore announced on Monday.

About one million people are expected to watch the dazzling pyrotechnic effects shoot from seven barges in the harbour and across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House at midnight on December 31.
