‘Monster’ 53kg python wrangled for weigh-in at NSW zoo

A giant python, appropriately named Monster, has had its first weigh-in at the Australian Reptile Park on the Central Coast.

Video showed a number of zoo staff wrangling the reticulated python to get it in position to be measured and weighed.

“Monster was in an awkward position which made it difficult for keepers to get her out,” General Manager Tim Faulkner said.

The still-growing reptile is 5.28 metres long and tipped the scale at 53 kilograms.

“We’re really happy with the result,” Mr Faulkner said.

“With this weigh-in, it could be said that Monster has the potential to eventually be the longest snake living in Australia.”

Monster expected to grow to up to 10 metres and live for 30 years.
