Convicted Sydney gang rapist Mohammed Skaf charged after allegedly leading drug ring

Convicted gang rapist Mohammed Skaf has been charged with 24 drug and other offences after allegedly leading a drug supply ring.

Skaf, 42, was arrested during police raids that allegedly uncovered $220,000 in cash, about 68 grams of cocaine, 10 grams of MDMA, several mobile phones and a vehicle in raids across Sydney last night.

Another 140 grams of cocaine and $25,000 in cash were allegedly discovered after a search of Skaf and a park close to a home in Greenacre.

Skaf was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with 24 offences, many of which were related to alleged drug supply.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Walsh said police had been investigating the alleged drug ring since March, and will allege Skaf, who was paroled in 2021, was at the centre of it.

“We believe and we are going to allege he is the principal of the whole investigation,” Walsh said.

“He directed everybody, he directed the runners.”

The alleged runners were also arrested in other raids.

At a unit in nearby Bankstown, a 51-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly found a ballistic vest, a baton and steroids, while a 54-year-old woman was arrested after a search of a Newington unit allegedly found ketamine and MDMA.

“We are alleging they are runners working for the principal,” Walsh said.

“[They were] coming, picking up drugs, and delivering them to locations which he is directing them to go.”

The man and the woman were taken to Bankstown Police Station, where they were given several drug supply charges.

Skaf and the other two people were refused bail to appear in court today.

Skaf was sentenced to 23 years’ imprisonment for his role in the Sydney gang rapes in 2000, alongside his brother Bilal Skaf.

He served all but two years of his sentence, which was reduced on appeal from 32 years behind bars.

At the time of sentencing, District Court Judge Michael Finnane found Skaf was “a vicious, cowardly bully, arrogant and a liar, as well as being a rapist”.
