Man charged over false reports of missing NSW swimmer
A man has been charged with falsely reporting another man was missing in the ocean off the NSW south coast.
Emergency services were scrambled last week after reports a Victorian man's belongings were found on Gillards Beach, Tathra, at 5.30pm on Wednesday.

A 42-year-old man reported the man had gone missing after going for a swim following an evening run. Police, NSW Ambulance, Surf Rescue NSW, PolAir, and SES were all involved in the search.
Drones were also used to scour the ocean as part of the hunt, which continued until Friday.

But police called off the search after concluding there was no missing swimmer.
The 42-year-old man, also from Victoria, will appear at Bega Local Court on 15 October charged with making false representations to police requiring a police investigation.
