Search to resume for missing swimmer at Sydney beach

The search for a swimmer who disappeared at a Sydney beach yesterday will resume this morning.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, failed to resurface after going into the water just before 4pm at Maroubra Beach yesterday.

He was believed to be at the beach with several friends, police say.

"Conditions are not favourable offshore this afternoon, with choppy seas and squally rain showers," Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Andrew Harding said yesterday.

"Volunteer crews on board Middle Harbour 30 and Botany Hacking 32 will continue searching this evening until instructed otherwise by NSW Police Marine Area Command."

The search was suspended at 6pm yesterday evening, but will resume at 8am today.
