Methadone found in 5yo's urine in NSW

The urine of a five-year-old girl found unconscious by her grandfather in Sydney's west has tested positive for methadone.

The grandfather had tried to wake the girl around 1.30pm but she was non-responsive and having difficulty breathing.

Hawkesbury duty officer Inspector Peter Jenkins said the man called Triple-0 and began CPR on the little girl.

Methadone vials were found at the house when emergency services arrived.

"One examination (at hospital) has revealed the child had methadone in her urine," Insp Jenkins said.

The girl was airlifted to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.

The Child Abuse squad is investigating the incident.
