Media mogul John Singleton fined for violent outburst

Media mogul John Singleton will cop a $550 fine for his violent public outburst caught on film in which he appeared to threaten Hungry Jack's founder Jack Cowin with a broken wine glass.

NSW Police told the Daily Telegraph they would send the multi-millionaire a Criminal Infringement Notice after reviewing images and video of the stoush that broke out at an upmarket Sydney steakhouse on Monday.

The news comes at the same time that a box of Roses Only flowers was sent to the exclusive Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf restaurant on behalf of Singleton and his rowdy lunch party.

The roses were addressed to Kingsley's manager Sinead Murtagh who was filmed intervening to separate the two millionaire brawlers, the newspaper reports.

The flowers were sent as apology, Singleton confirmed in text message to the paper.

"Anyone who would be happy about those photos being on the front page would have to be a lunatic," he said.

A dusty Singleton said yesterday morning he was "mortified" when the news of his scallywag behaviour became headline news.

Speaking with 2GB's Ben Fordham, the 73-year-old advertising tycoon said his actions and comments were "in absolutely appalling taste, they were absolutely sick, they were absolutely inexplicable".

"It was a joke, mate. It was a joke gone wrong," he said.

"I think less of myself for behaving that way."

Singleton said the beef between him and Mr Cowin — friends of 50 years — was in no way real.

The fine issued to Singleton is similar to those issued to Channel Nine CEO David Gyngell and James Packer, a long-time friend and former owner of Nine, for their very-public rumble in Bondi last year.
