Mardi Gras victim Jamie Jackson releases song

The teenager at the centre of the police brutality saga at last year's Mardi Gras has plans to launch a music career by releasing a song online.

Video of Jamie Jackson's arrest sparked community outrage and he was thrown to the ground and held by the throat by a police officer on March 3, 2013.

Now the 19-year-old has channelled his emotions into a new song, titled 'I've Decided that I'm Great' — believed to be a tongue-in-cheek response to the hype over his arrest.

"I think people will like it but I think more people will hate it, but I just don't care," Jackson told The Star Observer. "To me it's just an artwork for me to look back on this part of my life and to allow others who have gone through a similar life experience to relate to it."

He was recently awarded $40,000 in costs after it was ruled police had used excessive force.

The song will be released in full next Wednesday on YouTube.
