Inmate stabbed several times in NSW jail

A prison inmate is in hospital with several stab wounds following a fight at the Cessnock jail in the NSW Hunter region.
The 33-year-old man was stabbed in the arm and back by two other inmates at Cessnock Correctional Centre on Friday morning, NSW Corrective Services said.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.

The two alleged assailants have been identified and the department has launched an investigation into the incident.
