A man has undergone emergency surgery after being repeatedly stabbed during a fight at a western Sydney train station.

Emergency services found the 35-year-old victim with multiple stab wounds after being alerted to an altercation between two men at Berala Railway Station on Tuesday night.

A 38-year-old man was later charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was refused bail to face Burwood Local Court on Wednesday.

Police say initial inquiries suggest the pair knew each other.
