Man shot in the face in Wollongong attack

A gunman is on the loose after a man was shot in the face in Wollongong.

Police believe the man was attacked in Joanne St, Woonona but managed to get in his car and drive to nearby Mountain Avenue before ringing emergency services around 2:30 pm on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old suffered severe facial injuries and was airlifted to hospital in Sydney, where he is in a serious but stable condition.

Police say they think the attack was targeted.
