Man 'said he had disease, spat at NT cops'

A 53-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly claimed to have a disease before spitting at Northern Territory police officers.

Police were responding to a disturbance at a residence in Moulden, southeast of Darwin, on Sunday night when the incident occurred, according to NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services.

"While police were on scene, the man allegedly made claims that he had 'that' disease and spat at both of the police officers," a PFES release said on Monday.

The 53-year-old has been charged for assaulting a member of the police force and is expected to face Darwin Local Court via video link on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner Murray Smalpage was "appalled and disgusted" and hoped officers wouldn't contract any illness "following this reckless act".
