A man is in critical condition after being stabbed by his flat mate during an argument in Sydney's inner west.

Authorities were called to a Strathfield unit on The Boulevard around 7.45pm this evening.

It is believed the two flat mates argued in the kitchen before one them stabbed the other multiple times, then fled the scene.

Two other residents arrived home at the unit and called emergency services.

The 35-year-old victim remains at the Royal Prince Alfred hospital in a critical condition.

Detectives seized a knife from the scene.

The offender is still on the run.
