A Sydney truck driver who struck two elderly men while doped up on medication, killing one, has been found guilty of dangerous driving.

Moustaffa Zreika was found guilty by a Parramatta District Court jury on Tuesday of dangerous driving occasioning death and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The 30-year-old was driving a truck in July 2017 when it crossed to the other side of a Merrylands street, hit a vehicle, mounted a gutter and ran down Tannous Daher and Milad Moujalli as they were gardening outside a home.

One of the men was dragged across a side street, with the tipper truck eventually crashing into the wall of a house.

Mr Daher, 82, died while Mr Moujalli, then 75, was seriously injured.

The jury heard Zreika had high levels of the opioid pain medication Tramadol in his blood at the time which the prosecutor said was inconsistent with him taking it as directed.

Zreika was formally refused bail and is due to face a sentence hearing on August 2.
