A 28-year-old man has undergone surgery after he was found with multiple stab wounds on a western Sydney street and detectives are investigating if the attack is linked to another assault nearby.

The victim had been hosting a party at Homebush West about 9.30pm yesterday when police were called to Hampstead Road after reports of a stabbing.

Ten minutes later, ambulance crews were called to an address about 200 metres away where they found a 52-year-old man unconscious.

Police have arrested two 26-year-old men over that attack and say they are investigating if the two incidents are linked.

The 52-year-old was treated by paramedics and is also being questioned by police.

All three have since been released by police at Auburn station.

The 28-year-old is in Royal Prince Alfred hospital in a stable condition, with police saying detectives will interview him when he recovers from surgery.

It's believed one of the 26-year-olds is the brother of the stabbing victim.
