Witnesses told police the injured man, aged in his 20s, was seen standing with an iron bar on the Lavington street before he was struck by a silver ford sedan at about 7pm on Sunday.
The man was carried some distance on the bonnet of the car before he fell and was then dragged under the car for several metres.
