Widower killed by his own car while visiting wife's grave

An 86-year-old man has died after being run over by his own car while visiting his wife's grave at a cemetery in Sydney.

The elderly man with his son when he fell in front of their Honda Accord about 11am yesterday at Rookwood Cemetery, in the city's west, police said in a statement.

He suffered fatal injuries after the vehicle rolled over him.

The son tried to resuscitate the 86-year-old until paramedics arrived but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have visited the site and are still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
