Young man dies after swinging from Hanging Rock

A young man has died after swinging from a popular climbing spot in the Blue Mountains today.

The man, aged in his 20s, struck a ledge after swinging from Hanging Rock at Blackheath, NSW.

Rescue crews were called and tried to stabilise him, but he died at the scene about 2.5 hours later.

Police Rescue, Special Casualty Access Team paramedics and the Careflight helicopter attended.

Hanging Rock is a popular spot for adventure sports enthusiasts.

In May last year, a man suffered serious injuries while using an illegal rock swing at the same location.

Police are investigating the death and interviewed witnesses today.

Authorities will prepare a report for the Coroner.
