Man dies after hitting emu in NSW crash

A man has died after he hit an emu in NSW's Riverina region.

The 69-year-old from Frenchs Forest was riding his motorcycle on a dirt road north of Griffith when the crash happened about midday on Saturday.

The man's friend told police he was thrown about 30 metres.

Paramedics were called to the scene at Mount Hope but the man died a short time later at Lake Cargelligo District Hospital.

The emu died at the scene.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
