A man who allegedly knifed his brother in the chest has handed himself in to police in Sydney's south.

The man, in his 40s, walked into Kogarah Bay Police Station on Wednesday following an alleged stabbing that left his 46-year-old brother in a critical condition.

Police say an argument between the brothers led to the stabbing on Tuesday night, leaving one brother in intensive care at St George Hospital, while the other fled.
