A man has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being stabbed in the neck during a fight in Sydney's north-west last night.

Police were called to an address on Kirby Street in Rydalmere just before midnight after reports a man had been stabbed.

It is understood two men who were known to each other became involved in an argument before one of them stabbed the other with a knife.

A 39-year-old man was treated at the scene for a laceration to the neck before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Police said they arrested a 59-year-old man at the scene, and have taken him to Parramatta Police Station for questioning.

A crime scene has been established and police investigations are ongoing.
