Man in a critical condition after being hit by car in Sydney's west

A man is in a critical condition after he was hit by a car in Sydney's west yesterday afternoon.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, was walking along Cullens Road in Punchbowl at about 4.30pm before he crossed onto Canterbury Road and was hit by a passing vehicle.

Police nearby immediately blocked off traffic and rendered first aid to the man until paramedics arrived.

He was rushed to St George Hospital suffering numerous skull and facial fractures and placed in an induced coma, where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle was spoken to by police at the scene before being taken to Canterbury Hospital for blood and urine tests.

Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing and have urged anyone who witnessed it to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
