Man charged with pouring bleach on partner

A man has been charged after allegedly pouring bleach down the throat of a woman in an alleged domestic assault in Sydney's east.

Police say the 39-year-old man pushed his partner onto the floor of their Maroubra unit during an argument and poured bleach into her mouth on Monday night.

The 37-year-old woman suffered chemical burns to her throat and damage to her lungs and remains at Prince of Wales Hospital.

Police say they searched for the man and found him on Wednesday morning in Maroubra where he was arrested.

He has been charged with reckless wounding, and using poison to inflict grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail to appear before Waverley Local Court on Thursday.
