Man charged over teenager's harassment

A quick-thinking teenage girl who was brazenly harassed by a man as she walked to school has helped police track down the alleged offender.

The 14-year-old memorised the car registration plate of the man who was leering and calling out to her as she walked to her school in Sydney's inner western suburb of Marrickville on Monday.

Police say the man slowed his car, sounded the horn, blew kisses to her and repeatedly asked her to get in the car.

The girl ran to her school and reported the incident, later telling police the car's registration number.

As a result police arrested a 67-year-old man at in Maroubra and charged him with an act of indecency.

He was given conditional bail and will appear and Downing Centre Local Court on June 3.
