Man charged over Sydney policeman assault

A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer in an incident that stopped peak hour traffic on Sydney's busiest street.
The alleged attack took place shortly before 5pm on Monday at George Street near Town Hall after reports a man was running through the traffic.
When police approached the man, he allegedly punched one officer in the face.

The injured male officer was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with facial wounds and has since been released.
The man appeared before Central Local Court on Tuesday charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting/hindering police.
He has been refused bail and will reappear in court on November 24.
