Man charged over arson attack on Syd salon

A man has been charged over an arson attack on a western Sydney hairdressing salon that caused an estimated $1 million damage.

The 42-year-old was arrested outside a Granville home on Monday after an investigation into two incidents at separate locations just weeks apart in Harris Park last August, police said.

Three weeks after the salon went up in flames, a single gunshot was fired into a nearby packed Indian restaurant, with police at the time saying they believed the crimes were linked, and could be traced to a string of attempted extortions.

The man, who was charged with property damage by fire and other drug supply and possession offences, will appear at Parramatta Local Court in June after being granted conditional bail.
