A man has been charged after allegedly stealing a bike then using a glass to slash open the arm of its owner in southwest Sydney.

Police say the man stole the bicycle from outside a unit block in Liverpool and was wheeling it away in a shopping trolley when he was confronted by the 44-year-old owner at a park in Moorebank late on Thursday night.

Police say the alleged offender then attacked the man with a glass, slicing open his left arm before fleeing the scene.
